Tint is one of the few things we fit that has a legal dimension, so it is worth understanding before you pick a shade.
The law sets limits per window
Ohio does not have one single tint limit. The rules differ depending on which window you are talking about — windshield, front side windows, rear side windows and the rear glass are each treated separately, and the front of the car is more restricted than the back.
Rather than quote figures here that might be out of date by the time you read them, we will show you the compliant options for your specific vehicle when you come in, and note the film and shade on your invoice so you have a record of what was fitted. The film matters more than the shade
People tend to choose tint by how dark it looks. The bigger difference is what the film is made of:
- Ceramic rejects the most heat at any given shade. If your goal is a cooler cabin rather than a darker look, this is the one. It also does not interfere with phone, GPS or keyless entry.
- Carbon looks good, blocks UV, and will not fade to purple the way cheap dyed film does. A strong value option.
- Dyed film is what you find on a bargain job. It fades, it bubbles, and it will need removing.
A light ceramic film can keep a cabin cooler than a much darker cheap film, while staying well inside the legal range. That surprises most people.
What a good install looks like
- Patterns cut by machine for your exact glass, so no blade goes near your trim or seals
- Glass cleaned properly first — almost every bubble people complain about is a contamination problem
- Edges sealed and even, with no light gaps at the top of the door
- A few days of curing before you roll the windows down
Old tint
If your current film is bubbling or has gone purple, it needs to come off before anything new goes on. We remove old film as part of the job.
